Golfers win at Chase and Peabody

Despite a day of rain, sleet, and high winds, the Peabody-Burns High School golf squad came home with five top-10 medals and a first place team finish.
The six-man team that won the tournament was made up of Joe Zappone, Brian Wingert, Travis Pohlman, Jason Wingert, Thomas McGee, and Curtis Frederick.
Five PBHS golfers finished in the top 10 and received medals.
McGee led the Warriors team with a nine-hole round of 35. Zappone came in second also with a round of 35.
Jason Wingert finished sixth with a round of 41. Brian Wingert came in eighth with a round of 42, and Travis Pohlman was ninth with a 43.
Trevor Foth, Martin Hofkamp, and Jacob Gillet also participated.
Peabody Invitational
The team chalked up another victory April 8 at home.
The six-man team of Zappone, Pohlman, McGee, Brian Wingert, Jason Wingert, and Jason McClendon captured the first-place medal playing on its home course.
The team score was 160.
Yates Center came in second at 175 and Chase finished third at 181.
Pohlman led the individual standings with a first-place finish after a nine-hole round of 36.
Brian Wingert was third at 38, Jason Wingert fourth with a 41, and McGee ninth with a 45.
Zappone just missed out on the medal count, finishing 11th.
Junior varsity
The junior varsity team of Curtis Frederick, Martin Hofkamp, Trevor Foth, and Jacob Gillet also took top honors with a first-place team finish.
Their team score was 223. Riley County JV finished second at 232.
Frederick medaled in fourth for the team, while Foth was fifth and Gillet seventh.
