Golf tournament grows

Peabody Fire Department is winding up the planning for its annual golf tournament which will take place Sunday at Lakeside Country Club.

This will be the fourth year for the event. It has grown from 16 teams the first year to 36 teams this year.

Two tee times will be necessary to accommodate the additional teams this year. An 8 a.m. and a 1 p.m. tee time, with a shotgun start, will get the event rolling.

Raffle prizes are tickets to a variety of sporting events including the Kansas Speedway, Stealth, Thunder, Wrangler, and Royals games; an autographed photo of Peabody High School coach Dennis Franchione; four savings bonds; two passes to the Colbert Hills golf course in Manhattan; two passes to Echo Hills in Wichita; a hammock; and many other items.

One unusual prize is a complete set of season tickets to the Dallas Cowboys games — for 2001. However, the tickets are autographed by players.

The grand prizes are a barbecue grill and a 13-inch color television.

A hog roast for the golfers will be held after the tournament. Raffle prizes will be given away at that time. The drawing for the prizes is open to the public. Tickets are available at the city building and in several downtown businesses.
