Golf team takes fourth at state

A successful Peabody-Burns High School golf season came to an end Monday at state competition at Mankato.

The team placed fourth in the six-team field with a total of 313.

Rock Hills shot 282 and won the state title.

Tipton was second with 293.

Downs/Lakeside placed third with a score of 296.

Chase County came in fifth with 331 and Chase scored 351 to take the sixth spot on the board.

Brian Wingert medaled at fifth for PBHS with a round of 70.

Joe Zappone medaled at 12th with a round of 75 and Thomas McGee medaled at 20th with an 83.

Jason Wingert and Travis Pohlman both shot 85 and Jason McClendon 100.

Coach Jim Pohlman was pleased with the 2008 Warrior golf season.

"This team placed as third medalist or better in every tournament with the exception of state.

"As far as we have been able to find in the PBHS records, this has never been done before in school history," Pohlman said. "I'm very proud of this group of young men. They have a great future ahead of them."
