Goessel library presented story times during Children s Book Week

Last week was the premiere of the Kansas One Book, One State program "Kansas Reads to Preschoolers." The book chosen for this year's project is "No Matter What," written and illustrated by Debi Gliori.

"Kansas Reads to Preschoolers," a project of the Kansas State Library, was created to highlight the importance of reading to children as well as to promote the library as a renewable resource of reading material. The goal is that every Kansas child between the ages of 0-5 years (all 226,453 of them!) will be read to during National Children's Book Week, Nov. 14-20.

In celebration of National Children's Book Week, the Goessel Public librarian, Laura Dailey visited local day-cares and the preschool to have a special story time, reading the chosen book.

All these facilities were given their own copy of the book to keep in their book collections.

"I really enjoyed doing this. Going out to places other than our library and having story time is not a usual activity but it was fun to see our children being well cared for and educated. It is obvious that at all these places, story time is a normal part of the children's day. I can't stress how important reading aloud is for the cognitive, socially, and emotional development of a child" concluded Dailey.

To top off a great week, the Goessel Public Library held a special story time during the Friday preschool story time with the book "No Matter What" as the focus. They made a craft and enjoyed eating special heart-shaped cookies.

The Goessel Public Library continues to offer a free story time for preschoolers at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays.
