Goessel High School musicians earn top ratings at state festivals

Goessel High School musicians went to Ellsworth to participate in the State KSHSAA Large Group Festival and brought home superior ratings for every group.

The band was one of only three that received the top rating from all three adjudicators.

The mixed choir received a superior rating from all three adjudicators and the girls' glee and boys' glee groups also received overall superior ratings.

Goessel High School musicians participated this past weekend in the 2006 State 1A Solo and Ensemble Music Festival at Wichita and brought home 88 gold medals.

The Elbiata Singers received a 1+ rating.

Students and ensembles earning the top rating of I or "superior" were the brass choir, women's vocal ensemble, clarinet quartet, men's vocal ensemble, saxophone trio, Kellen Jenkins (vocal), Thomas Murphy (trumpet), Kristin Unruh (flute), Kyle Unruh (trumpet and vocal), Scott Ferguson (tenor sax), Adam Goering (trumpet), Allison Banman (vocal), Janessa Wedel (clarinet and vocal), Brittany Voth (vocal), Amy Brubaker (clarinet), Brianna Unrau (vocal), Jared Unrau (tuba), Evan Fast (alto sax and vocal), and Cameron Voth (vocal).

Chris Johnston (tenor sax) earned a III or "good" rating.

Students are under the direction of Greg Bontrager, choir director, and Bud Meisel, band director.

The public is invited to hear most of these groups and solos at the annual spring barbecue concert May 16 at Goessel Junior/Senior High School.

There is no admission charge for the supper and concert but donations to the music department will be accepted.

This is the only fund-raiser for the music department and provides money for trips to events, both in and out of state.
