For three possessions to start the game, the Goessel High School team lined up on offense and scored each time.

With eight minutes to play in the first quarter, Goessel was already ahead 22-0 in a District 3 football contest at Flint Hills High School.

It was a game in which the Bluebirds never punted. The coaches had agreed before the game, that if either team won by the 45 point "mercy" rule that the rest of the game would be played with a running clock and junior varsity players would get some playing time on the evening.

The halftime score was 52-0 with the Bluebirds ahead. Goessel played the younger, less experienced players the rest of the game with the clock stopping only for time-outs, and the final score was Goessel 66 Flint Hills 15.

"Our defense played well again," said coach Justin Coup. "But their defense did not touch some of our runners."

Goessel is now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in district play. Goessel will be at Burlingame Friday for a showdown with two teams both 2-1 in District 3.
