Go Big Blue

You may have noticed that since Friday the downtown windows have been awash in "Go Warrior" signs. I would like to acknowledge the local Warrior fans who went to the time, trouble, and expense to raise community awareness and express support for the success our kids have had.

No, they aren't students, cheerleaders, or pep club members. They aren't faculty, coaches, or football moms. They are just enthusiastic supporters who were more than a little disappointed that there was no visible sign of support in the community for what is, after all, a feather in our collective cap.

No matter how you may feel about the "emphasis on sports" in our schools, you have to admit it is fun to have a winning team. We are all pleased when our young people are successful at their endeavors, whether it's football, FFA, or forensics. (Having said that, I have to admit to being a bit bewildered as to why the students themselves weren't the ones making signs and banners.)

I am not going to name the women who did it because they would likely be embarrassed. However, you should know that they are moms and grandmas. They are Peabody High School graduates who still attend games, concerts, plays, meets, and all manner of school functions. They have done so for decades.

None have anyone playing on the football team, marching in the band, or leading cheers before the crowds in the stands. Their kids are too old and their grandchildren aren't yet old enough.

How 'bout that? They just did it because they thought it should be done. Go Big Blue!

Thanks for the lesson in school spirit, ladies.
