Glenda Allen
Glenda Lee Allen, 66, of Florence, died June 23, 2005, at Newton Medical Center.
Born Nov. 28, 1938, at Wichita, she was the daughter of Clarence and Virginia (Reece) Pickens.
She grew up in Clearwater and attended school there. While in high school, she worked as a switchboard operator.
In 1956, she married Bernard Purvine and the couple lived in Wichita. She worked as a switchboard operator for a number of businesses.
On Oct. 25, 1975, she married Silas Allen at Wichita. In 1977, they moved to Orlando, Fla.
In 1993, they moved to Florence to be near her mother, Virginia Hanes and other family members.
She was a member of Florence Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Si of Florence; stepson, Mark Allen of Dunbar, W.V.; daughter, Brenda Andrews of Newton; two stepdaughters, Marsha Sims of Salina and Kathy Mann of St. Cloud, Fla.; two brothers, Dennis Pickens of Peabody and Randy Pickens of Wichita; two sisters, Donna Brown of Claremore, Okla., and LeEsta Hanes of Newton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Florence Christian Church with the Rev. Peter Banning officiating.
A memorial fund was established with the church.
