GHS volleyball players named to all-academic teams
Three varsity volleyball players this past week from Goessel High School were recognized for their academic and athletic abilities.
Seniors Brianna Unrau and Brittany Voth, and junior Katie Flaming were named to the 2005 Kansas Volleyball Association all-academic team.
The KVA said the team is designed to honor high school varsity players who have proven excellence in the classroom.
To be eligible all letter winners must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale during the first semester of the 2005-06 school years.
Hillsboro REC to sponsor softball and baseball
Baseball and softball in Hillsboro are back.
Hillsboro Recreation Commission will host a 10- and under and 12- and under baseball tournament April 8 and 9.
The tournament is a three-game guarantee, and is limited to the first eight paid teams in each age division. The entry fee is $100 plus three game balls.
The entry deadline for the tournament is 5 p.m. March 30 or until the tournament is filled.
The commission wil host an American Fastpitch Association national qualifier softball tournament May 5-7.
The tournaments will be 14, 12, and 10- and under "A" and "B."
The entry fee of $150 is good for a four game guarantee. There will be a $30 additional fee if the team is not sanctioned with the AFA.
Entry deadline is 5 p.m. April 27 or until the tournament is filled.
