Get ready for Peabody Main Street auction

By Steve Hamous

Circle Feb. 19 on your 2005 calendar and plan to join us for another sure-to-be-spectacular Main Street Auction.

This is a Peabody event that no one wants to miss. It's fun, it's wild, and it's a great way to support the Peabody Main Street Association's efforts to help our small town thrive.

Come prepared to eat well, laugh a lot, bid up your neighbor, bid up yourself or your spouse, spend lots of money, and take home cool stuff.

And speaking of cool stuff, WOW! Our plea in the last newsletter for auction items resulted in some fabulous donations, including everything from personalized Christmas stockings hand-knit by Joan Berns to a "$100 hamburger" flight for two donated by Kris and Ellen Teaford.

You'll also be able to bid on the stained glass window from the former Peabody Grade School that hung proudly at Muriel Wolfersperger's home for years, and a large framed photo of the Santa Fe Depot taken by John Wolfersperger.

But more items are needed. So now's the time to:

— Clean out your attic and basement and donate any Peabody memorabilia you come across. You'll be amazed at what that old PHS sweatshirt or photo of a classmate will bring.

— Analyze your talents and dream up a special service you could donate. It doesn't need to be a professional service — it could be something as simple as shoveling the winning bidder's walkway for the first snow storm next winter.

— Make something! Design a one-of-a-kind Peabody masterpiece and donate it for auction. Hand-made items always bring top prices. If you paint, sew, carve, knit, crochet, weave, hook, bake, sketch, work with wood, arrange flowers, etc. etc., GET STARTED NOW!

Call Joanna Brazil, (983-2174), Susan Marshall (983-2771), or me (983-2438) and let us know what you can do to help. This is a perfect way you can support your hometown community. WE NEED YOU!
