Get out the old ladder
By KRISTEN HOOPER
Director, Peabody Main Street Assn.
Yes, another year has flown by, yet again. Soon Thanksgiving will be here and everyone will be eating more than their stomachs can hold, taking naps to recover, then heading back into the kitchen for more (at least that is what I intend to do). For some, the end of Thanksgiving means the beginning of the Christmas season. For a majority of households this means one thing — holiday house decorating.
I think it is safe to say that some dread this time of year. The weekend after Thanksgiving means time spent untangling lights, buying new ones, hanging them, replacing broken ones, climbing up and down ladders — basically a lot of labor. It will help to think of it as a labor of love.
For others this is their favorite time of the year. Safely stored lights and other decorations are pulled out of the attic and displayed proudly in the yard and on the house. The holiday house decorating is something the entire family looks forward to putting out together.
This is a time for each house in Peabody to express to the community your holiday cheer and excitement about the season. This year you have been given a bit of incentive for your excitement.
The economic development committee, in partnership with Peabody Main Street Association is sponsoring a house decorating contest. There will be five anonymous judges who will be viewing home exteriors Nov. 29, Nov. 30, and Dec. 1. Each judge will submit their top three choices of the home exteriors best decorated for the holidays.
Prizes were donated by Peabody State Bank and are first place, $100 in Peabody Bucks; second place, $75 in Peabody Bucks; and third place $50, in Peabody Bucks. Winners will be announced at the Western Wonderland live entertainment event on at 7 p.m. Dec. 2. You do not need to be present to win.
Get out your ladders — but be careful — and help bring holiday cheer to your neighborhood and the entire community.
