George Endres

George Edward Endres, 75, retired Marion carpenter and farmer, died Feb. 24, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after suffering from cancer for several months.

Born July 25, 1926, at Newton, he was the son of George E. Sr. and Helen (Zeurcher) Endres.

He grew up in Newton and attended school there.

He had been a dairyman and livestock farmer south of Marion, for many years. He also developed an interest in carpentry and wood working, and was noted for his skill in that craft, especially his wood carvings.

Another hobby he enjoyed was raising Basset Hounds.

His favorite pastime was attending the many functions and events participated in by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Androes) Endres of the home; son Joe Endres of Emporia, six daughters, Sharon Andes of Galva, Donna Dearmore of Overland Park, Patricia Hajek of Houston, Texas, Mary Haagenson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ruth Smith of Wichita, and Lori Kirkpatrick of rural Peabody; one brother, Robert Endres of Shawnee Mission; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) and the Mass offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, both by Father Steve Gronert at St. Mark Church of Holy Family Parish, Marion.

Charlene Svitak will be the organist with Scott Zogelman as vocalist.

Mass servers will be Neil Waner and Andrew Gayle and the ushers will be Jerry Makovec and Lou Wegerer.

Casket bearers are Gary Raleigh, Daniel Dearmore, Chris Hajek, Scott Hajek, Ryan Kremeier, Adam Endres, Mark Raleigh, and Jared Kirkpatrick. Honorary bearers areDavid Hawley, Matthew Kirkpatrick, and Michael Kirkpatrick.

Gift bearers are Amy Paneris, Darci Robinson, Carri Mascareno, Erin Endres, Julia Kremeier, and Rachael Hawley.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery near Florence.

Memorial funds have been established in his name with the American Cancer Society, Marion Library, and Holy Family Catholic Parish.
