Garage sale update

So which town in Marion County has the BEST garage sales? Well, by golly, we do! We aren't yet in the league with Valley Center, which boasted 200, but we are on our way! Thanks to all of you who got your sales listed so we could attract more buyers. Imagine how much stuff we kept out of the landfill. I think we did quite well.

I was disappointed that none of the ugly 1930s dishes I had hoped to find were available on any of the tables of glassware and pottery I perused. Nor did I find any Playtex all-rubber girdles to test the veracity of the tale I heard that they are pricey items on eBay.

However, the Mister and I scored on a couple of items for our personal collections and I bought a few things that I might have the Married Daughter list on eBay for me. We ran into some friends from the past and had a nice visit with them about their extended family and reminisced about their mother. We bought a to-die-for pound cake from the ladies set up in the American Legion. Got enough suspense novels to last for a month or two and had a generally fine day.

To end this on an even more positive note, I must add that four or five people who missed the deadline showed up at the Gazette-Bulletin office and tried to give me $10 for their unlisted garage sale. Now wasn't that nice? Even though they weren't going to be on the map, they wanted to contribute to the advertising charges. I KNEW there was a reason I thought this town was the best town!

One unofficial seller from last year even brought me $15 to pay for her 2003 sale. She also signed up for this year's event. She is a Peabody person I had never met and it was nice to visit with her. I found out she and her family have lived here for six years. Good grief! Maybe we are not doing a very good job as a community welcoming new families into the fold. Shame on us. Sounds like an editorial topic for another day.
