Frankie Valens was a nightclub singer in the late '60s and early '70s, whose signature song was "This Magic Moment." He also recorded "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "She Cried." He toured the United States and Canada and was showcased in Las Vegas. Valens also was an extra in the movies "Ice Castles" and "Every Which Way But Loose."

Valens had the opportunity to sing in front of 35,000 enthusiastic Amway folks, where on the same ticket were former president Ronald Reagan and country singer Crystal Gayle. He also sang for the inauguration of former San Diego mayor as well as former California governor Pete Wilson's 60th birthday party at Sea World in San Diego. The Byrds, the Platters, and the Boxtops are 1960s groups with whom Valens recently has shared the spotlight.

Phyllis, Valens' wife, will perform with him at Sunday's concert. She is an accomplished concert pianist and writes some of the music the couple sings. She also has presented full piano concerts.
