Fortune teller predicts fun at library

Madame Zola's forecast that Castle Fest Family Fun Night would be a hit came true Friday at Peabody Township Library when families came to the library for the evening and participated in several events.

The castle tournament events honed the skills of young squires seeking to become knights.

In addition to palm reading by Madame Zola, competitions took place in bocce ball, dragon bowling, sword fighting, lance throwing, ring toss, conquering the card catalog, and even training to storm a castle.

Castles that were previously created by reading squires of the Royal Reading Kingdom (the summer reading program) also were on display to be judged.

The results are:

Most unusual materials, "Wizard Castle" by Sean Clay; most original, "Queens, Kings, and Dragon Things" by Paige Lewis and Katie Lewis; most beautiful, "Fairy Tale Castle" by Megan Bielefeld; best fortifications, "Princess Palace" by Alex Lewis and Stephanie Lewis; most detailed, "Battle Castle" by Benson Gillet; largest, "Coast Castle" by James Gillet; smallest, "Block Castle" by Mackenzie Young; silliest, "Tower Castle" by Bryant Young.

The castle voted as the favorite was "Princess Palace" by Alex and Stephanie Lewis. Second place was Megan Bielefeld's "Fairy Tale Castle."

Paige and Katie Lewis will win an award for working the hardest on their castle, "Queens, Kings, and Dragon Things." The castle included items such as furniture and books inside the castle and a princess in the tower.

Peabody Township Library board hosted the family night with special assistance from Stephanie Ax (Madame Zola) and many volunteers.
