Hunting seasons in Kansas have been postponed indefinitely according to the state Fish and Game Commission because of the long droughts which has made hunting dangerous because of fires that might be started. O.R. Shipman, local hunter, has a dog named Ring that has taken it all in stride. According to Shipman, the dog has learned to catch fish now that it can't hunt. Shipman says the dog will go in the water, find a fish, and bring it back to the bank. He doesn't know whether the dog will cut through ice this winter to get a fish.
The large vote in Tuesday's election in Florence was made possible in part by the perseverance of women such as these two. Mrs. Melvin Short, whose baby daughter was born Monday morning, was taken to the polling place by stretcher and ambulance. Mrs. Tina Minturn, who broke her hip some time ago and didn't feel able to walk down the steps at the Methodist church, was carried down by her son and others so that she might vote.
