The city council met Monday night, Nov. 1. Councilmen present were Harold Huntley, Clifford Willingham, Rodney Williams, and Marion Suffield. Larry Hanes was a guest. Mayor D.C. Stevens presided. Larry Hanes thanked the council for supplying funds to meet repairs to the ball field this past summer. He also stated he opposed the possibility of an ordinance for tree removal at the cost of the property owner. The council explained the $50 bond would be paid by the tree cutter and the reason for this possible ordinance was because of the damage to city streets that is being done and that trees were not being cleaned up. Also the trees are not being dumped in the proper place.
Three members of the Florence-Marion FFA Chapter participated in a statewide sheep evaluation school held last Saturday at the state fair grounds at Hutchinson. Local students involved were Barry Shields and Cindy Bernhardt of Marion and Jerry Shipman of Florence.
