FLORENCE YESTERYEARS: 25 years ago
Ron Wineinger scored a perfect score, 200 points out of 200 possible, at the Mid-Kansas Ayrshire judging contest held last Thursday at Hillsboro. The contest was held in connection with the Mid-Kansas Ayrshire Show which involves Ayrshire breeders in the central third of the state. Ron, of course, captured the first place honor with his perfect score. Ron is a member of the Florence 4-H Club and enrolled in the heifer phase of the dairy project with his junior yearling Jersey heifer.
A county-wide group met Wednesday to organize the CROP Hunger Walk to be held Sept. 26. Since its inception in 1947, CROP has made available more than $100 million worth of resources to the world's hungry. These resources are being utilized in programs that help people help themselves. Seeds, fertilizer, tools and other agricultural development aids provided through community CROP projects enable farmers to increase crops by dealing with the root cause of hunger.
