FLORENCE YESTERYEARS: 104 years ago
In Madrid, the cabinet council sat for four hours yesterday afternoon discussing the peace terms. The Spanish-American peace commissioners are to meet in London, and will discuss the disposition to be made of the Philippine Islands, the payment of the Cuban debt, the evacuation of Cuba and Puerto Rico, and the ownership of the war material in the Antilles.
Ex-senator Miller of New York, the president of the Nicaraguan canal commission, and Sen. Morgan of Alabama had a conference with President McKinley yesterday. The President expressed his belief that the government possession of the Nicaraguan canal is now necessary and that the war and its results make the canal indispensable to the United States.
