Florence woman killed in accident
Jamie L. Ward, 20, Florence, was killed as the result of a vehicle accident Friday on U.S.-50 east of Walton.
The wreck took place at 3:15 p.m. when Ward was westbound toward Newton. Her 1990 Pontiac crossed the center line of the highway and struck the rear wheels of an eastbound semi-trailer truck.
LifeTeam helicopter landed at the scene and transferred her to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
No citations were issued. The highway was closed to traffic for more than an hour.
Ward was well known as a waitress at Town and Country Café in Florence and as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Newton.
She was a 2001 graduate of Marion High School, a member of Good News Christian Fellowship in Marion, and the daughter of Charlene Lawrence of Florence.
Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion with Pastor Larry King officiating. Her body was cremated.
A memorial fund has been established in her name with the American Red Cross.
