Florence UMC to honor local groups, individuals

Individuals or groups in the Florence community will be honored once a month during worship services at Florence United Methodist Church.

During a recent meeting of the Outreach Committee, members voted to honor and recognize deserving people during the first Sunday of each month.

Nearly 130 adults and children attended services Sunday to celebrate Children's Day. The children of the church were responsible for the services.

Leah James, Danielle and Brandon Brown, were greeters. Jacob Cope, Leslie Riggs, and Evan Slater were ushers. Danielle Cope was the accompanist. Special music was provided by Erika Riggs and Clay Riggs. Gabe Moore was the worship leader and Adam Cope gave the sermon.

Balloons decorated the pews and later were given to the children. Congregational singing was traditional children's songs. Danielle Cope and Nancy Moore presented a clown skit to begin the service. Children who had attended "Kid's Time" Wednesday afternoon shared some of the songs they had learned.

After lunch consisting of kids' favorites like macaroni and cheese, corn dogs, pizza, and ice cream sundaes, the children were given buggy rides with miniature horses owned by Larry and Deana Olsen. Rick and Vickie Turner furnished cotton candy to those attending.

Honorees during the first Sunday in April will be members of the Florence Volunteer Fire Department. They will be invited to attend church services and lunch following. In May, local EMS volunteers will be honored.
