Florence restaurant will host Christmas holiday dinner

Linda Britton, owner of the Chuck Wagon Café in Florence, will be up late on Christmas Eve once again, putting the finishing touches on a meal meant for dozens of people. As usual, she has no idea how many might show up, but no one will be turned away and no one will leave hungry.

Britton will be serving the meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas Day at her restaurant on the corner of Fifth and Main in downtown Florence. There is no charge.

"I just don't want anyone to be alone for Christmas," said Britton. "If you find yourself alone, come to the Chuck Wagon. We'd love to have you."

Britton says this is probably the sixth or seventh year she has fixed the traditional meal with all the trimmings.

"Shoot, I don't know for sure how long I've been doing it," she said. "Doesn't matter. Just so people know they can come here, eat, and enjoy the company of others on Christmas Day."

The menu will include turkey, ham, a couple of kinds of dressing and potatoes, vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pie.

"Everyone is welcome," said Britton. "And I mean everyone."
