Florence native named nurse of the year

Former Florence/Burns area native Sandra Rodgers R.N. has been selected as Kansas School Nurse of the Year for 2002.

The award was presented July 23 during the annual statewide summer conference held for school nurses at Wichita.

The conference was attended by nearly 500 of the 800 school nurses in Kansas.

Rogers helped form the partnership between USDs 363 and 457 to receive a grant from Kansas Health Foundation for school-based clinics.

Rodgers has been a school nurse at Holcomb for 20 years. She is a member of the National Association of School Nurses.

She and her husband, Terry, have two children. Their son, Richard, lives at Lebanon, Mo., and daughter Carie lives at San Diego, Calif. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Wyss Sr. of Florence.
