Florence leaders consider ambulance replacement

Scott Zogelman, Florence ambulance department director, told Florence City Council Sept. 7 the department had looked at three ambulance units for the city to purchase.

Two units were from Wheel Coach and one was from Med Tech. Zogelman said the preference was the model from Med Tech of Wichita.

"It's the same model as the current unit," Zogelman said. The approximate cost would be $95,000 with a cot. The unit comes with standard, attached equipment.

All ambulances considered would be on a 2004 Ford chassis, Zogelman said. All had diesel engines and were demonstrators with low mileage.

The other units from Wheel Coach would cost approximately $85,000 each.

Zogelman said the new unit would replace unit number two which is the oldest of the two ambulances. The older ambulance could be sold by sealed bids, he added.

The next ambulance department meeting will be Sept. 27, Zogelman said, but he planned to talk with ambulance personnel to ask their preference. Zogelman will provide a report to the council at its next meeting Sept. 20.
