Florence Historical Society plans for the future

Florence Historical Society met Feb. 23 for its monthly meeting at Harvey House Museum.

It was announced the society would serve a meal March 8 to the Marion County Historical Society.

Members voted to join other community organizations: the chamber of commerce, Labor Day Committee, and Pride Committee to promote Florence May 7-8 with a booth at Kansas Sampler Festival in Newton. The society will join the South Central Kansas Tourism Region organization.

Plans were made to begin landscaping in April around the Harvey House. If anyone has any ground cover or old-fashioned perennials to share they should contact any historical society member. Members hope to construct an old-fashioned 1880s-type Victorian flower bed. In order to keep the Florence heritage alive, members are urging anyone willing to share any old family photographs to provide them so they may be hung in a place of honor in the museum.

Members attending were Neva Robinson, Judy Mills, Linda Allison, Twilah Williams, Sarah Cope, and Mary Jane Grimmett.
