Florence Historical Society plans busy December

Florence Historical Society members will be busy in December serving traditional Harvey House meals to various groups celebrating the holidays.

The society met Nov. 16 at the Harvey House Museum for its monthly meeting. Attending were Neva Robinson, Judy Mills, Twilah Williams, Mary Jane Grimmett, Kristal Timm, Sarah Cope, Marjorie Jackson, and Vickie Turner.

Recipes are needed for the new Harvey House cookbook. Anyone wanting to share a favorite recipe should give it to Kristal Timm. It was reported the December newsletter will be mailed this week.

2005 community calendars are ready for delivery. They are available from any member for a small cost.

Members were excited to hear of recent donations which include an Armed Forces uniform which is now on display from the Riggs family; articles from the family of Helen and Benard Stromberg including copies of the Alarm Clock, a collage of the Stromberg Dairy, which operated from 1915 to 1967 at Florence and two old quilts. One quilt was made by the Osban family and has family member names. The other has 20 blocks with 18 names embroidered, making a total of nearly 400 names of early citizens who lived in Florence years ago.

New officers will take office in January. They are president Sarah Cope, vice president Judy Mills, secretary Marjorie Jackson, and treasurer Twilah Williams.
