Florence firemen plan kids day, hog roast

An evening of fun and food is being planned for Oct. 15 by Florence Fire Department.

Kids' games will begin at 4 p.m. at the fire station. All children are invited to participate and should dress to get wet because there will be water games.

Children will receive fire hats, safety information, crayons and other items.

Fire chief Tim Parmley said the purpose of the event is for children to have fun and to teach fire safety.

Some of the firemen will be in bunker gear and air packs to familiarize children with their appearances.

A hog roast will begin at 5 p.m. The menu includes barbecue pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, and cookies. A free will donation will be accepted.

Sparky the fire dog also will participate in the event.

A cake shaped like a fire truck will be auctioned in the afternoon.

Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
