Florence community to sponsor cleanup day
"Clean Up and Fix Up" day in Florence has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11.
Janette Parmley, chairman of the project, said this is a repeat of what the community accomplished two years ago when they had "a great turnout."
They had willing volunteers from ages three to past 70, Parmley said, and they hope to have the same response this year.
She said the volunteers "gave their time the whole day, only slowing down for lunch."
The reward for such volunteerism is a "neat looking town."
This year a special effort will be made to help senior citizens who need brush trimmed or hauled away.
Call Parmley at 620-878-4646 for more information or to register.
She said the town "tree dump" will be open and someone will be present to help with unloading and keep the brush burning.
Lunch will be served to workers at noon at the home of Bev Baldwin, 238 W. Tenth.
Her garage will be the "command post" for volunteers.
Groups will be formed and several groups of people may work together.
At the end of the day, volunteers will gather at the Baldwin home for a chili supper.
The day begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.
"It's another way of helping Florence be a great place to live," Parmley said.
