Florence city council agrees to purchase property

The Florence city council moved quickly through some year-end business Monday afternoon.

An executive session was held for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel and the acquisition of property. Upon returning to open meeting, the council voted unanimously to purchase the property south of the ambulance building on Main Street.

Other action taken during the meeting included approving purchases for the Florence fire department. Reilly Reid was on hand to request permission to purchase four pass systems for use on air packs and two Scott air bottles. The purchases will total $1560. Approval was unanimous.

Mayor Jeannie Meirowsky called for motions to accept the resignation of Scott Zogelman as co-director of the ambulance service and to hire Dave Shupe to work on a lease/purchase agreement at a rate of $50 an hour, not to exceed $750.

Motions were made and passed, 3-0. Councilman Larry Timm noted that he appreciated the job Zogelman had done with the ambulance. Zogelman's resignation is effective Dec. 31.

A cereal malt beverage license and an amusement license were granted to "Someplace Else" for the year 2002; the council agreed to pay Howard Kahler for 50 hours of "comp" time; and they scheduled a working lunch at noon Dec. 27 to hold a budget amendment hearing on the solid waste fund and cover some year-end items.
