Florence city council accepts chief's resignation
Florence City Council held a special meeting Feb. 18 and unanimously accepted the verbal resignation of Florence Police Chief Creighton Smith.
Smith had been suspended a day earlier by Mayor Jeanie Meirowsky when the council refused to take action on Smith's verbal resignation.
The special meeting was open to the public.
Part-time Florence reserve officers have been scheduled for additional working hours to be certain that a police presence is visible and active in the community.
According to Mayor Meirowsky, the council will wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday to consider a replacement for Smith.
