Florence City Council
Most of the items on the Florence City Council agenda were tabled Monday night because of lack of information.
"We ran into a problem with everyone taking vacations right now," City Clerk Darla Gore explained.
Action on the city's clear well plan was scheduled. However, the city superintendent was unable to obtain needed information before a decision could be made. Cracks formed on the clear well head at the water filtration plant, and the city is wanting the installation company to correct the problem. The clear well head is only a year old.
Action also was tabled on the purchase of lightning arresters for the city water plant. The plant was struck by lightning early in the spring and the strike affected its ability to pump water. Subsequently, water was purchased from Hillsboro for a time. Unable to visit with a representative from U.S. Filter Company because of a vacation, the council action was tabled.
The purchase of new city street signs also was tabled so city staff could obtain additional quotes.
"We learned we have to have state standard sizing," Gore said.
In other matters, the council:
Heard a number of applicants had applied for the position of police chief. Four have been interviewed. Background checks are pending, Gore said.
Scheduled a budget hearing for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12.
Rescheduled the September meeting from Sept. 6 to Sept. 7.
Approved a resolution regarding a capital outlay fund. Initially, the fund will cover capital improvements at the city building and for curbs and sidewalks. A capital improvement outlay has not been budgeted during the past two years.
Heard from Sue Klassen, Labor Day celebration committee chairman, that plans for the event are being formulated.
