Florence chamber to sponsor Memorial Day dinner
During a brain-storming session about fund raising at the Florence Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday, chamber members approved a plan to sponsor a dinner on Memorial Day.
Memorial Day weekend is a traditional reunion weekend for Florence High School alumni, many of whom stay for the Memorial Day service at the Highland Cemetery on Monday. Chamber members felt a community dinner after the service would extend the weekend for returning alumni and visitors by providing a meal and a place to visit and see more people.
Sue Klassen volunteered to be in charge of the project. She will report back to the chamber at the next meeting.
The chamber will sponsor an Easter egg hunt at Grandview Park at 10:30 a.m. April 19. Members will meet the week before to fill plastic eggs for youngsters to find.
Cindy Holt, proprietor of "Shear Success," told about her business, its background, and herself. The "Get to Know a Member" agenda item features a different chamber member every month.
It was announced that a KG&E representative will come to Florence and look over the possibility of installing lighting for the Florence welcome sign.
Joel Hayes reported that he will get estimates on some updates to the swimming pool including a hot water heater for the showers, a drinking fountain, and exterior paint.
The chamber voted to make a donation to Kevin and Janet Robinson to help defray the expense of repairing the fire damage to their home.
The next meeting will be held at noon April 3 at the Florentine Center.
