Florence chamber spotlights new business

Florence Chamber of Commerce met at noon Wednesday at the senior center for its August meeting.

Those attending included Ronald and Kathleen Ludwig, Joel and Alice Hayes, Mary Jane Grimmett, Estelle McCarty, Bev Wiebe, Darla Gore, John Lehman, Bill Edmunds, Vickie Turner, and Cindy Holt.

The town's newest business owner, veterinarian Brendan Kraus, was introduced and welcomed. He has opened a new veterinarian hospital.

The benefit hog roast for the swimming pool was a huge success. Also, a new chamber business directory is available at city hall for new residents who move into the community.

Bev Wiebe was featured during "get to know your member." Wiebe said she was born while her parents were serving as missionaries in the Congo. She graduated from Tabor College, taught first grade for four years, and later attended graduate school at Kansas State University where she obtained a degree in marriage and family therapy.

Wiebe later moved to Evanston, Ill., to work on an internship with John Lehman. She moved to Florence four years ago and now works with Lehman at Well Springs Counseling Services. She has a son, Michael, 2.

Also, it was reported the chamber would be sponsoring the Rev. Mark Moore from Florence United Methodist Church for Leadership Marion County.
