First phase of lake restoration completed
Museum open house is Sept. 30

Marion County Commission reviewed a report from Landon Leiker Monday regarding improvements to some historic structures at Marion County Lake.
The project began July 30 and was completed Aug. 28, where a stone incinerator was repaired and a stone boat landing replaced for a total of $3,100.
Leiker also informed the commission that an open house at the lake museum was planned at 2 p.m. Sept. 30.
In other business:
— The commission signed a lease agreement with Pilsen State Bank for a new car that was purchased for the economic development director. The car was purchased for $15,970 from Hillsboro Ford-Mercury and the lease was for $15,900.
— A new dog for the sheriff's department may be purchased. Sheriff Lee Becker told the commission that the dog currently used for locating drugs and people was getting to the age of retiring and a new dog needed to be purchased. Estimated costs for the dog was $6,000. Becker said he had sufficient funds in his budget for the canine.
— A bill from the architects of Law Kingdon of Wichita will be researched. It was noted that the county was charged for a car rental.
The bill was for the county's request from the consultants regarding the feasibility of a new jail facility or renovations to the existing facility.
— County sanitarian and zoning administrator Bobbi Strait reported the Oct. 1 deadline was approaching for Daniel King, owner of a salvage operation.
By the Oct. 1 deadline King is to have a survey of the property, a fence 75-80 percent completed, and a fluid collection plan.
— The Kansas State Fire Marshal's office has established 12 regional hazardous materials response teams at various locations.
They are Coffeyville, Colby, Emporia, Ford County, Hays, Manhattan, Overland Park, Salina, Sedgwick County, Seward County, Topeka, and Wellington.
— Commissioner Dan Holub said he wanted the commission to discuss the possibility of changing the county's neighborhood revitalization policy to include multiple projects on individual tracts.
— Becker reported inmates are painting the exterior of the lake hall and working on windows at the jail.
The next commission meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday at the courthouse.
