The Peabody-Burns Firebirds finished the regular baseball season June 30 with a record of seven wins and four losses.
The team played Hillsboro #2 at Hillsboro June 26 and brought home a win. Players came out swinging the bat and scored five runs in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth and final inning.
The Firebirds' defense held the Hillsboro team to no runs in the first and only two in the second. The pitchers then began to struggle and gave up five runs each in the final two innings.
The final score was Firebirds, 15, and Hillsboro, 12.
Pitchers for P-B were Caleb Hilliard, Jason Wingert, Jordan Riggs, and Joseph Lopez.
The final game of the season was played June 30, at home, against a very talented team from Chase County. Going into the game, the teams were tied for second place in the CVL. It was a tough defensive battle with great pitching from both teams.
The Firebirds managed only four hits in the six innings of play. At the end of the fourth, the game was tied at four each. But, Chase County managed to take the win by scoring eight runs in the final two innings. The final score was 12 to 5 in their favor.
