Final report on autumn
Well, we had a fine Halloween evening. The Great Pumpkin actually did make an appearance at the wedding we attended Friday night in Newton. He was all gussied up, but recognizable just the same. My only problem with his appearance at the wedding was that he sat right in front of us and so it was a bit tough to see around him. But I asked for it, didn't I? As they say, "Be careful what you wish for." Actually, I was more impressed with the fact that Elvis performed the ceremony. When the wedding was over I tried to hunt him down and snag an autograph, but he had left the building.
Also in the Halloween report, I must note that our local youngsters had a heyday with toilet paper, but kept themselves in check and did no mean-spirited stuff. Good for you, kids. Hope you had a fun evening!
My friends in the deer hunting business tell me that it is time for all of us to become more cautious drivers. It seems Bambi and his family want to move across gravel or asphalt-covered surfaces to be where there is some action. And the action they seek will propel many of Bambi's family members in front of your car at a moment's notice. Beware. Be careful.
You might make a trip downtown this weekend if you are getting yourself into the holiday shopping mode. Many of the local businesses are planning special open house events and sidewalk sales to pique your interest about the upcoming holiday shopping season. A group of teachers and their friends will be hosting a special craft sale at Peabody Elementary to give you a head start on your holiday decorating and gift giving.
And the women of the Peabody Methodist Church are holding their annual "Italian Ristorante" dinner Saturday evening in the church basement. After a full day of shopping, you will be too tired to cook, so take your family out to dine on fine Italian cuisine.
We've had some terrific autumn weather, haven't we? Many of the trees have shown splendid colors during the last few weeks and those of you who do wonders with mums and other fall blooming flowers have been well rewarded. I hope you all took time to enjoy the sights.
And I hope Elvis and the Great Pumpkin took note before they left central Kansas.
