Final block party is Sept. 15 years ago

Congratulations to the 200 block of Maple . . . you are the third winners of the Neighborhood Beautification Contest! We look forward Friday to cooking well-deserved block party barbecue dinner.

Blocks have one more chance to win. The next judging will be Sept. 4-6. Winners will be awarded Sept. 15 with the final barbecue dinner.

The intent of the Peabody Economic Development Council when this program started was to reward neighborhoods that are maintained, and also to encourage neighborhoods to ban together to look nice. How we look as a community and how we treat visitors have a significant impact on "economic development." One never knows when a prospective resident or business owner is looking to relocate and/or employer is considering our community as its home.

With this program, we hoped to spur on some friendly competition in neighborhood beautification. We have a beautiful city, parks, and Main Street.

Remember, every block in Peabody is eligible to win the next barbecue. A block includes both sides of one street block. Whether your block is maintaining a look that already is well polished, or improving the area in a significant way, your block is a great contestant to win the prize!

Criteria to win the block party barbecue are: 1) Grass mowed, neat and clean, 2) bushes and trees trimmed, 3) no appliances, junk, or debris in yards, 4) clean curbs and gutters, 5) no nuisance conditions, or 6) most improved in all of the above categories.

The dinner is sponsored by Peabody Hardware, Peabody State Bank, Peabody Market, the City of Peabody, and the Peabody Main Street Association.

Congratulations to the 500 Block of Walnut, 900 Block of Locust, and 200 Block of Maple for winning the first three contests. We hope your block is next! Thank you for keeping our city beautiful. If you have questions, contact Joanna Brazil at 983-2174 or email pmsa@peabodyks.com.
