FFA plans activities

The Centre FFA Farm Business Management team was one of 43 which competed Oct. 30-31 in the career development event during the 75th national convention at Louisville, Ky.

They qualified for the event by placing first in Kansas. They took eighth place.

Members were Cecilia Rziha, Maria Jirak, Natalie Carlson, and Jenna Tajchman.

Rziha placed 12th overall in individual competition and received a $500 scholarship from the John Deere Foundation, which sponsored the farm business management event.

Centre FFA chapter received a $950 grant from the National FFA Alumni Association, which will be used to host a leadership workshop in November. Twenty out of 70 applications were approved.

The team was awarded a gold emblem. Maria Jirak received a bronze.

Other students who attended were Kristin Mueller, Andrea Carlson, Jackie Klenda, Josh Spooner, Steven Hageberg, and Jeremy Kristek.

Students attended leadership workshops, a career show with more than 400 exhibitors, and convention sessions. They also toured the Kentucky Derby Hall of Fame and the National Science Museum.

They were accompanied by adviser Cary Granzow and second-semester ag intern Gaea Wimmer.
