FFA members have busy September

Peabody-Burns High School FFA members were busy with many activities in September, including the state fair, guest speakers, and community service projects.

South Central District FFA secretary Derek Belton of Centre High School and South Central District treasurer Levi Bryant of Arkansas City High School, attended a session of the Introduction to Agriculture class Sept. 18 at Peabody-Burns High School.

They discussed opportunities available to members through FFA.

Students in the class were Jacob Wolf, Lindsay Wiebe, Leann Spinden, Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, Ryan Johnson, Josh Fistler, Mike Gfeller, Holton Middleton, and Josh Oakes.

The group enjoyed participating in a variety of different teamwork activities.

Peabody-Burns FFA members helped at the Kiddie Barnyard at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

Members attended the fair Sept. 11 and assisted in the barnyard from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

They were responsible for doing daily chores, feeding the animals, and assisting small children to pet the animals.

FFA members attending were Matt Entz, Ben Jantzen, Derek Benson, Ryan Johnson, Leann Spinden, Andrea Ferren, Ryan Gaines, Scott Gray, Dusty Koop, Jessica Slater, Wes Brewer, Andy Nellans, Brian Baker, James Morris, Amber Langenegger, and Michael Unruh. Also attending were FFA Alumni member Lisa Slater and sponsor Sonya Roberts.

The chapter uses this as a chapter development activity, part of their program of activities.

Assisting with the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to Peabody Sept. 9 were a number of students from the Peabody-Burns FFA chapter.

The club was responsible for unloading the truck and unpacking materials. They also set up various stations. They returned when the visit was over and assisted in cleaning up, packing the materials, and reloading the truck.

Students involved were Jessica Slater, Dusty Koop, Ben Jantzen, James Morris, Brian Baker, Ryan Gaines, Ryan Johnson, Derek Benson, Leann Spinden, Amber Langenegger, and Andrea Ferren. They were assisted by alumni member Lisa Slater and sponsor Sonya Roberts.
