FFA members attend leadership conference

Peabody-Burns FFA chapter leaders attended the 46th annual state FFA conference for chapter leaders July 8-10 at Barton County Community College and Camp Aldrich in Great Bend.

Approximately 300 FFA members and advisers from 60 chapters attended the three-day conference.

The theme, "Keepin' it Real," engaged students from across the state to discover their own potential as well as the potential of other chapter members. Leadership built and service learned with hands-on application will help chapter officers lead fellow members in the upcoming year.

As shown in countless reality TV shows, true leaders are willing to do what it takes to meet their goals. The conference builds the leadership skills of the already growing leaders to help them step into the roles they were elected to fulfill in their chapter.

The first day of the conference was spent learning the duties of each respective office and how to work together as a team. During workshops, officers learned what it takes to be a true servant leader and put others first. That evening, students headed to the ABLE course at Camp Aldrich, where they challenged one another to build communication skills, use teamwork, and develop trust.

The second day, students gained greater understanding of themselves, the chapter, and community they serve. They determined the characteristics of a typical member in their chapter and the ways to include them. During workshops, students had the opportunity to develop ideas and standards for the student, chapter, and community development areas. Students ended the day with a night of games, music, and movies.

During the final day of the conference, students worked in the Great Bend community painting the skateboard park. This was a great opportunity for service and exposure to true service leadership.
