FFA chapter has annual awards banquet

Peabody-Burns FFA chapter held its annual banquet May 2. The chapter enjoyed a great meal and many members were presented with awards.

In the degree ceremony, Greenhand, Chapter, and honorary degrees were presented. Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, and Ryan Johnson received their Greenhand degree pins. The Star Chapter Greenhand award went to both Derek Benson and Ben Jantzen.

Receiving chapter degrees were Brian Baker, Jesse Barnhart, Andrea Ferren, Ryan Gaines, Amber Langenegger, James Morris, Jessica Slater, and Leann Spinden.

Ryan Gaines received Star Agribusinessman and Leann Spinden received Star Chapter Farmer. Ron and Larry Goodwin received honorary degrees for their donation of a barbecue grill for FFA functions.

Seniors Dusty Koop, Andy Nellans, and Philip Unruh received their senior leadership pins.

For the program, Sandy Dillon, 2002-03 Kansas State FFA secretary and a freshman at KSU, gave a motivational speech.

The audience also heard from Ed Slocombe, PBHS FFA Alumni president. Slocombe presented a short report of upcoming activities for the state alumni and thanked some special people for help this year in making the alumni chapter a success.

The most exciting part of the evening was the announcement of next year's officers. Outgoing president Andy Nellans announced the 2003-04 officer team: Ryan Gaines, sentinel; Jessica Slater, reporter; Andrea Ferren, treasurer; Amber Langenegger, secretary; Leann Spinden, vice president; and Mat Entz, president.
