FFA chapter competes in state contests
Peabody Burns FFA Chapter has been busy lately traveling to Kansas State University in Manhattan to compete in numerous state career development events including Ag Mechanics, Dairy Judging, Entomology, and Livestock Judging.
The Ag Mechanics team competed April 28. Theme of this year's contest was "Dairy Cattle Systems." The three areas of competition were electrical, mechanical, and environmental. Members of the team were Matt Entz, Scott Gray, and Ryan Johnson.
Also competing that day was the dairy team. Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, and Jessica Slater took a 50-question test on dairy information, placed six classes, and gave two sets of oral reasons on placings of two classes of cattle.
The Entomology CDE also was that day. Michael Unruh was the only contestant from Peabody-Burns competing. He placed sixth overall.
On the 29th, the livestock judging team of Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, and Leann Spinden evaluated eight classes of swine, beef, and sheep.
They also presented three sets of oral reasons for their placings on three classes.
All students placed well in their respective contests and represented the chapter well.
