FFA celebrates 75 years of service years ago

The Peabody-Burns FFA Chapter celebrated 75 years of service Feb. 17-22 during National FFA Week.

The theme was "One Mission: Student Success."

The goal of the local chapter was to conduct an activity each day of the celebrated week.

On Monday, members drove farm equipment to school. During the lunch hour they drove the implements through Peabody's business district.

Tuesday found the chapter hosting a member/alumni luncheon. Members cooked hamburgers, sausage burgers, and mountain oysters. It was open to members, alumni, school administrators, and board members.

The speaker was Sam Atherton, state alumni director and member of the National FFA Board. He encouraged alumni to support the local chapter.

Wednesday found members up early to cook breakfast for alumni, parents, and all school personnel.

Thursday was the annual work auction and supper. The auction brought in more than $2,000.

On Friday the chapter conducted a cake raffle at the high school basketball game. The five cakes were made by Patti Gaines.

On Saturday the members enjoyed pizza served by the alumni and also bowled at Peabody Lanes.
