FFA attends district contests
Ag mechanics and livestock judging teams to compete at state competition
Peabody Burns FFA Chapter has been busy attending several South Central District Career Development events.
The first one was March 31, District Ag Mechanics, at Pratt Community College. Members attending were Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, and Ryan Johnson on the freshman team. Members on the senior team were Matt Entz, Ryan Gaines, Scott Gray, and Andy Nellans.
All participated in the three phases of the competition which were the mechanical, environmental, and electrical contest. Individually, Ryan Johnson placed fifth in the mechanical contest and Derek Benson placed ninth in the environmental contest. As a team they placed fourth in the electrical contest.
The livestock judging team traveled to the Hutchinson State Fairgrounds April 1 where Hutchinson Community College hosted the South Central District Livestock Judging Contest.
Freshman team members included Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, and Ryan Johnson.
Senior team member was Leann Spinden.
The students placed 10 classes of livestock consisting of swine, sheep, and beef.
Freshman teams gave one set of reasons and answered questions for two classes of livestock.
Senior teams gave three sets of reasons.
The teams were accompanied by FFA Adviser Sonya Roberts.
Both ag mechanics and livestock judging teams are looking forward to state competition at the end of April at K-State, Manhattan.
