FCCLA members attend STAR events
Peabody-Burns FCCLA members recently attended District G FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) events and elections in Newton.
Jennifer Schmeling was a student judge for the culinary arts competition. Chanele Burke and Samantha Pickens were voting delegates, deciding who would lead the district in the school year 2005-06. Shelby Wilson and Naomi Coe competed in the Focus On Children contest. They presented their project, "Fighting Obesity." The members received a silver medal.
Coe ran for district officer. She is the vice president of STAR events for the upcoming school year.
Members are planning spring money-making activities. One of the projects will be going door-to-door asking for an egg, then trying to sell the egg at the next house. All proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald house in Wichita.
Members also want to sell construction paper flowers to their schoolmates and have them pin the flowers on their favorite teacher. At the end of the day, the teacher with the most flowers will be awarded a prize.
Another activity will be selling chances to enter students in a pickle eating contest. The top chance winners in each class will see who can eat the most dill pickles in one minute. The winner will receive Dilly Bars.
