Farmers Market members meet Saturday
Twenty-three people met Saturday at the Morgan House in Peabody for a program led by Jerry Jost of the Kansas Rural Center.
Out-of-town guests included Harry and Margie Bennett of Marion, board member of the rural center, and new area residents Debbie and Noel McSweeney. Debbie is the head chef at Prairie Harvest at Newton and Noel brings his Irish background to a planned farming operation southwest of Peabody. Kathy and Ron Richardson of Wakefield also attended.
Current members of the market brought products typical of items they sell to share with everyone. Jost showed a video program and various photos of markets across the country and pointed out good (and bad) points for members to consider. A good discussion of the expectations and potential improvements followed the ideas tossed out by Jost.
Everyone enjoyed homemade soups, breads, cookies, angel food cakes, and cinnamon rolls. Neysa Eberhard provided samples of the new cereal bars from Harvest Lark at Chapman, a project assisted by the Kansas Wheat Commission.
Burn ban extended
Burn bans continue in Marion and Harvey counties for at least another week.
Commissions said weather conditions continue to warrant the concern and extended the ban. No exceptions will be considered by Marion County Commission.
