Farmers Market dinner is sold out
Sold out! These words can mean music to the seller's ears, and disappointment to prospective diners, but the Doyle Valley Farmers Market community dinner is sold out!
President Martin Koslowsky and his chief assistant Sonya have almost been pulling their hair trying to figure out just where the tickets were and how many tomatoes could 125 people eat and how big an oven does it take to cook over 100 pounds of meat. The dinner is at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Those attending should bring their own chairs.
This year, diners will have the added treat of a community band concert directed by Dr. Virginia Skinner. Skinner reports musicians include violinists from the Valley Center area. She also has guests who recently returned from deployment in Iraq so it should be a special occasion. The concert is at 7 p.m.
The annual community dinner features locally grown, cooked, and served food and is presented this year by 16 vendors. Each vendor pays a fee which mostly is used in advertising and promoting sales in Santa Fe Park during the summer.
Monthly meetings, held from January through April, usually feature a speaker with horticultural or marketing insights or a field trip for a learning experience. More vendors would be welcome — especially a fruit grower who could extend the season.
Sorry you waited too long to get that ticket to the dinner — but the free band concert only requires guests to bring their own chairs!
