Family honors memory with KSU scholarship

A memorial scholarship has been established at Kansas State University for Tom Potter, former Peabody resident and Peabody High School graduate.

Potter's daughter and son-in-law Sally and Hank Hoesli of Wichita, committed $25,000 to the Kansas State University Foundation Changing Lives Campaign to establish the Thomas M. Potter II Memorial Grazing Land Management Scholarship.

The scholarship honors Potter and will provide financial assistance to students in the Department of Agronomy in the College of Agriculture at the university.

Potter graduated from K-State in 1937, with a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. While in school, he was a member of the livestock judging team that won first place in 1936 at Chicago. He participated in numerous social and musical groups.

He served on the board of directors of the Kansas Junior Livestock Show, was chairman of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee, trustee of the Kansas 4-H Foundation, director of the Kansas Livestock Association, and national president of the K-State Alumni Association.
