Fair earns $2400 in books for classrooms, library years ago

The Scholastic Book Fair held March 25 and 26 at Peabody-Burns Elementary School was a great success. It provided exciting books for the children and earned over $2,470 in books for the classroom and libraries. Many generous parents, students, and family members visited the fair, and the classroom libraries received numerous donated books.

Several contest were held. The kindergarten through third grade classes participated in a coloring contest. One winner per classroom was chosen and each won a prize and earned free books for their classrooms. Winners were: Nathaniel Ybarra and Alyssa Brooks, kindergarten; Rayna Barnes and Jarod Tullis, first grade; Brody Kyle and Benson Gillet, second grade; and Abe Eldridge and Sheldon Wiebe, third grade.

Fourth through sixth grade competed in a "Guess How Many Goldfish" contest. A total of 835 goldfish were place in a plastic container and each student guessed the number. Winners won a prize and earned free books for their classroom. Winners included Alex Holm-McDowell, who guessed 728 and took first place; Michael Hamous was second, guessing 681; and Ethan Riggs was third, guessing 680. Winners from the remaining classrooms were: Luke Douglas, 600; Stephanie Rem, 600; and Marissa Jantz, 410.

All teachers' names were placed in a box and two winners were drawn. Mrs. Loewen, kindergarten, and Mrs. Cooper, third grade, each won $20 in free books for their classroom.
