Fair association seeks more operating money

Marion County Fair Association representatives told county commissioners July 17 the fair ran a deficit last year of $1,496. They are seeking an additional $2,000.
John Reznicek and Chuck McLinden stated one reason for the deficit was falling attendance at the May demolition derby.
McLinden would like to make the fair rodeo a professionally-sanctioned event in hopes would draw more people.
Ty Wheeler, Emporia, representing Kansas Legal Services, requested $3,000.
Michelle Abbott-Becker received approval to merge the bio-terrorism and communications advisory boards with the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) board.
Lincolnville is receiving a new repeater, to be installed on Agri-Producers, Inc., elevator by Aug. 15.
Gene Wilson, C.O.P. Consulting, Salina, was authorized to review the county's telephone bills and report back on possible savings.
Rollin Schmidt was directed to relieve the newly employed worker at the transfer station because of a violation of the nepotism rule, and seek another part-time person.
Schmidt said the east half of the former Marion County landfill will be aerial sprayed because of an infestation of serecia lespedeza, a noxious weed in Kansas.
Dale Bear is a new road and bridge employee.
Commissioners accepted a $10,000 bid on a county dump truck from Don and Leroy Kraus of Marion.
